Dr. Monika Buerger BA, DC

Dr. Monika Buerger holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from California State University of Fresno and a Doctor of Chiropractic from Life West Chiropractic College (1991). She has a very successful private practice and has also lectured both nationally and internationally for over 25 years. She has enjoyed extensive post-graduate training in the areas of neurodevelopment, functional neurology, neuro-nutrition and functional medicine. Dr. Buerger currently has a private family practice in Ammon, Idaho, that is dedicated to serving those with neurodevelopmental challenges, neurodegenerative disorders and chronic health issues. She is the pioneer in the chiropractic profession when it comes to working with children that have neurosensory and neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Dr. Buerger is a contributing author to the textbook Pediatric Chiropractic, Volumes I, II and III (due out in 2022) with chapters on Pediatric History and Physical Exam, Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Sensory Processing Disorder. She is the founder of the Intersect4Life Educational Seminars (www.intersect4life.com) Mentoring and On-line Learning Academy. CE classes offered focus on functional neurology, neurodevelopment, methylation biochemistry and functional nutrition. She has also collaborated with Dr. Heidi Haavik on bringing on-line CE classes and mentorship programs to chiropractors with Haavik-Buerger Seminars (www.haavikbuergerseminars.com)

Her newest exciting adventure is her “developingMINDS” certification program in Childhood and Adolescent Neurodevelopment (www.devmindsu.com). Dr. Buerger has brought 30 years of her research, teaching, and clinical experience into one incredible program, which has become recognized as the most comprehensive program of its kind currently available. The program covers the preconception period through early adulthood, with considerations in methylation biochemistry and individualized nutrition, the microbiome, prenatal stressors, sensory-motor development, primitive and postural reflexes and specific neuroIntegrative protocols. This is truly her life's best work.

Saturday Breakout Session: Adjusting the Future-Giving the Gift of Life to Future Generations

Many people feel that the past two years has led to a global shift towards “survival." This shift will have long-standing consequences on the health, well-being and the developmental trajectory of generations to come. Dr. Buerger will outline the struggles chiropractors can expect to see in the pediatric population moving forward and what these struggles can mean in the adult years. Bringing the most recent chiropractic neuroscience, she will also show how the chiropractic adjustment will play a critical role in healing a NERVOUS system.

Learning Objectives

  • Help attendees understand the sensory-motor signs of a stressed nervous system

  • Help attendees be able to recognize post pandemic developmental concerns

  • Help attendees understand the neurology of the chiropractic adjustment

Hour 1: The Neurobiology of Stress

In this hour, Dr. Buerger will cover the neuro-imune-endocrine system and how prenatal stress leads to dysmaturation of the autonomic nervous system and is considered the developmental origins of dis-ease. She will address how the recent pandemic is affecting neurodevelopment and what we can expect to see in our offices for generations to come. In addition to chiropractic care, she will also give practical tips on specific nutritional considerations, exercise, mindfulness, parenatal bonding and more in order to minmize the long-term affects of stress on the offspring. She will also present how stress is the foundation to chronic vertebral subluxation patterns.

Hour 2: The Polyvagal Theory, Prefrontal Cortex and Chiropractic

Dr. Buerger will discuss how heart rate variability and vagal tone are associated with function of the prefrontal cortex and what HRV measurments may indicate. She will also present an easy explanation of the vagal system and how to identify signs/characteristics of poor prefrontal/executive functioning and the chiropractic connection.

Hour 3: Chiropractic from Development to Disease

In this hour, Dr. Buerger will discuss what we currently know from the chiropractic neuroscience literature and how this affects neuroplasticity from neurodevelopment to neurodegeneration.

Hour 4: NeuroExpression, a Window into Neurological Integrity

Dr. Buerger will present how the brain percieves the internal and external world and what it means to the practicing chiropractor.  She will also present common signs/symptoms and characteristics of the interoceptive and exteroceptive systems and how they may present in practice members.
